2013 underway

 

The 2013 season got underway with winter training commencing at the West Exe Community College on Monday, 28th January.

With lots of new faces it was a busy training session as they got to grips with a baseball and the veteran pros dusted off the cobwebs and tried to shake off the after effects of any Christmas excesses!

The next training session takes place again next Monday at West Exe from 2030 till 2200 again. See you all there.

Winter training

 

Winter training will begin from Monday January 28th, 2013. Training will take placeat West Exe Community College on Hatherleigh Road,St. Thomas.

Training takes place on a Monday evening starting at 8:30pm and finishing at 10:00pm.

Subs will be £4 per person to cover the cost of hiring the hall.

Ground confirmed

The Carillion group, who manage St. Luke's College, have issued instructions for a new back stop and batting circle to be built at the college ready for next season. Discussions are still on going over a batting mound but we hope to have something sorted in time for the season start.

Opening day

SWBL is pleased to announce the 2013 season will open on the 14th April. The full schedule is yet to be finalised but games are likely to be scheduled for every other week. Keep checking for details of the full schedule.

Winter training extended

Due to the poor weather it has been decided to exend winter training by 1 additional week. Therefore there will be indoor training next week on March 18th at West Exe College from 2030 - 2000. Normal fees apply.

Spring training

Spring is here at last (or so we are led to believe) which means outdoor training will finally begin. Outdoor training will start on Monday 1st April at the King George Playing fields on Topsham Road. Fees will be £2. Players are welcome to arrive from 1700 with formal training begining from 1800.

@ Plymouth Mariners

​The Spitfires went down bravely in their first ever league fixture, losing 33-0 to defending champions Plymouth. The performance was better than the score line suggests, with many on the Spitfires team playing their first ever game.

​The Spitfires showed signs of improvemt against the Torbay Barons, in their second game of the season. Styling their new purple jerseys the Spitfires scored their first runs of the season.

Baseball returns!

After a 10 year hiatus baseball finally returns to Exeter, birthplace to the father of baseball, when the Spitfies host the Bristol Bats at their new diamond at St. Lukes College on Hart Lane on May 12th.

                                                                                

First win

The spitfires celebrated their first home game in triumphant fashion, picking up their first win of the season over the Bristol Bats, in a close 19-18 victory. Mark Myerson picked up the win in his pitching debut with 6 innings pitched before veteran Tony Watson came in to earn the save.

Spitfires fall short

The Spitfires fought back bravely in their second home game but had left themselves just a little too much work as they came from over 12 runs behind to finish 18-15 against Bristol

Home Run Derby

There was home runs galore at Chadwick field as the Spitfires hosted the Torbay Barons in a double header with 7 players combining for 9 home runs. 6 of those home runs them coming for the Spitfires as they claimed both games.

Baseball Fever Hits Tauton

Exeter Spitfires will be hosting 4 indoor training sessions in Taunton over October with a further 10 planned for the new year, with the aim of estabishing a new team in Taunton to compete in the SWBL in the 2014 season.

Training will take place on Wednesdays running from the 9th October through to and including the 30th of October. The venue is Blackbrook Pavillions, Blackbrook Way from 8pm to 9pm.

Work is underway with Taunton Council to find a suitabe ground for games next year. Cost £4 per session.

First Away Win

A stella day at the plate went a long way to helping the Spitfires win their first away game of the season. Tony Watson saw his good outing on the mound backed with some solid defence to earn his third win of the season.
